WMTA District

WMTA District Auditions

Let me give you a brief overview:  This is an event where students grades 1-12 and adult students have the opportunity to receive an evaluation of their performance and skills.  Students play 2-3 pieces (either memorized or not) before a judge. Students also take a written and aural theory test.  There are several categories or ‘tracks’ a student can take:  One of the three non-competitive district options or one of the two competitive state options where the student could possibly be eligible to advance to the WMTA Regional (grades 4 – 12), which has winners in each category. From there students (grades 7 – 12) can advance to WMTA State where a winner is chosen.  Students earn points which accumulate from year to year.  These points earn the student a tangible reflection of their hard work in the form of a plaque and gold bars that can be attached to the plaque.  This event can be useful for the students because it provides an opportunity to work for a specific goal, gain additional performance experience, and get written comments from another reputable piano teacher (the judge) on their performance.   There is an entry fee of $25 – $40 depending on the track and competition.
