WMTA Regional Competition

Students in grades 4 – 12 who participate in the WMTA District’s competitive tracks (Regional and True State) AND receive 80% or higher on their theory test and 14/15 performance points are eligible to go to the WMTA Regional Competition. Students in grades 1-3 can participate in the WMTA District’s competitive tracks to receive the points and judge feedback, but are not eligible to move on to WMTA Regional regardless of their scores.

The location for the WMTA Regional Competition rotates between La Crosse, Eau Claire, and River Falls. There is an entry fee of $30 to register and students perform the same pieces they did for WMTA District. There is no theory test. Students who qualify for WMTA Regional are not required to participate.

A winner, a runner-up, and honorable mentions are chosen for each grade level with the winner performing at an end-of-the-day recital. The winner for each grade 7 – 12 is invited to compete at the WMTA State Keyboard Competition. If the winner chooses not to participate, then the runner-up is invited.
